Parenting tips for enjoying daily life with a toddler and making an outing more fun for everyone.

Toddlers are delightfully fun to raise and enjoy going on an outing with a parent. Make these parenting moments into happy memories for everyone by ensuring that the toddler's needs are always anticipated and met.

Parenting a Toddler Means Respecting the Toddler's Need for Sleep

Rule number one for parenting a toddler enjoyably: Make sure that the toddler is getting the sleep he or she needs! Sleep is not a negotiable point. If a toddler is tired, the day will be shot until the needed nap has been provided.

It is useless to attempt to take a toddler on an outing if it is naptime for that child. Forget it, unless sleep in the car is certain – as in, the drive is over an hour and a half long and the toddler always goes to sleep in the car. Otherwise, time and money will be wasted on a ruined activity.

Part of parenting is learning to respect the needs of a toddler as of any other person. No parent would enjoy going on a loud, stimulating outing while sleep deprived. Toddlers don’t like it either.

Always Leave for Outings With a Toddler Prepared for Anything

Anyone with parenting experience knows that the word "toddler" is synonymous with "mess". Outings are likely to require a change of clothes (or two!) by the end of the day. Another important tip for parenting a toddler: if the toddler needs it at home during the day – he or she will need more of it on an outing. Remember to bring extra clothing, diapers, lots of snacks and drinks, and a few small toys stashed away for distracting a toddler who is running out of patience.

An outing with a toddler can be fun, but only when needs are met. Parenting is anything but enjoyable when trapped on an outing with a cranky toddler wearing a leaking diaper with no extras and wet clothes! With small children, happy parenting equals preparation.

Practice Connected Parenting – Anticipate Toddler's Needs

Parenting with grace, is parenting with a profound sense of each child, who they are and what they need. Each toddler is different and will react to an outing in his or her own way. Learn when enough is enough. A toddler shouldn't need to get to the point of misery before the outing is over. Parenting is the greatest form of sacrifice. Learn when to call it quits, because too much is unfair and can be a disaster. Shopping can be finished later and playdates can be scheduled for another day.

Enjoy Parenting and Outings With a Toddler More, Through Respect and Preparation

Parenting a toddler is fun! Remember to always respect a little one's needs for food, rest and sleep. Be prepared when leaving the house and avoid over stimulation to get the most from an outing.
